From Fleece to Felt: Woolcraft Workshop
Wet Felting Workshop
Sunday 26 July 2026 – 12:30pm
Step into one of the world’s oldest textile traditions and discover the art of wet felting in this hands-on creative workshop.
Using raw wool, warm water, and traditional felting techniques, participants will create their own unique felted wall hanging approximately A4 in size to take home. Designs can be inspired by Norse spirituality, Viking symbolism, or simply crafted as a beautiful decorative piece.
During this practical 1 hour 30 minute workshop, you will learn the full process from raw fleece to finished artwork. Participants who finish early will also have the opportunity to try wool carding or peg looming.
Wet felting dates back thousands of years and was known within the Viking world as part of their textile craft traditions. Felted wool was valued for its warmth, durability, and versatility, used in rugged clothing, boots, hats, and even hardened textile armour. Archaeological discoveries, including a felted wool bear mask found in Hedeby, reveal the important role felt played in Viking life and culture.
The workshop is hosted by Icelandic Wool Art, who raise their own herd of Icelandic sheep and create traditional wool crafts using fleece from their animals. This gives participants a rare opportunity to experience the journey from raw wool to finished artwork through genuine heritage craft practices.
The session will last max 1h 30min hours and will start at 12:30 and finish at 13:30 Sunday 26th July 2026.
