Make your own Viking Bracelet
Learn the art and some of the history behind Trichinopoly (Viking Chain Knitting) in this practical workshop for traditional Viking chain knitting held by the experienced Jennifer Bray of Brumvik Reenactment Group.
You'll be shown how to make a wire knitted bracelet that you'll have to keep and cherish from the experience for years to come.
You will receive tuition from Jennifer Bray, a booklet you can keep with the instructions and the tools needed all included in the price of the workshop.
Who knows, this may end up being a new hobby for you, it certainly is fun and relaxing.
Some work quicker than others, so you may not finish the bracelet during the workshop. You may keep the instruction booklet and specialist tools, so you can continue should you wish to do so. To continue after the workshop, you will need to provide your own wire cutters and fine nosed pliers. If you do not already own these tools, Jennifer can recommend sources. If you want to take up Viking chain knitting as a hobby, Jennifer can also recommend suppliers of wire, so you could go on to make more bracelets, or a matching necklace
The session will last 2 hours and will start at 10:30 and finish at 12:30 Saturday 30th July 2022.
Please select from the drop down menu if you'd like to knit in sterling silver wire or copper wire. What's the difference? Apart from cost of course and colour the main difference is the hardness of the metal and durability of it after it's finished. Silver is easier to work with and knit.
You may be able to upgrade to silver wire on the day if enough materials are available, but this is not guaranteed. We recommend having a good thought about what kind of material you like to wear and picking now to avoid disappointment.
Please arrive on time for the workshop as arriving late may impact your ability to keep up with the group.
You must be 12 or older to join this workshop due to the dexterity needed to pick up the knitting process. If you are under 18, you will need to be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the workshop. You may need ID if you are lucky enough to look like you need an adult to accompany you.
You must hold a valid Festival ticket for the day you are joining the workshop. You cannot attend any workshops or participate in any activities without a ticket that gains you entrance to the festival on the given day.
Upon purchase, you'll receive your payment/booking confirmation. You'll be on an access list when you partake so you just need proof that you're who booked when attending the experience and sign in with Jennifer directly before the workshop.
You may be able to join on the day if there are any spaces left or if there are any last minute cancellations, however please note that this is very unlikely. Just ask at the workshop entrance if there are still any spaces available.
The tools needed to knit are included in the cost of the workshop. You may choose to keep them and continue knitting the chain after the workshop or to use in other projects, or you can return them at the end of the workshop and receive a £10 refund for the tools.
You may be able to purchase extra wire from Jennifer Bray after the workshop should you wish to do other projects. Please enquire for availability and cost on the day.
Jennifer Bray reserves the right to deny participation to anyone she deems unsuitable to take part due to, but not limited to, attitude, state of sobriety, age, inadequate supervision. If you are deemed unsuitable to participate, you will not receive a refund so please arrive in an adequate state to be a part of the workshop.
